Project Status: Development
Project Background
The Men’s Shed concept emerged from community consultation linked to our Lochhead Garden Project and was supported through our Winter Warm Spaces initiative. The project aims to provide a welcoming space where people can socialise and develop new skills.
LCDT is supporting the Men’s Shed group. Their brand-new shed, funded by grant support, is now located in our Lochhead Garden community space.
The group is looking to create a safe place where like-minded people can gather, share ideas, skills, and take some time to pursue projects, big or small.
We have the support of the SMSA (Scottish Men’s Shed Association) and are excited about what this may bring for the Men’s Shed Group.
Project Aims
- Reduce isolation and loneliness by offering a welcoming space where people can connect in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
- Help members form real friendships through shared interests, collaborative projects, and time spent together on meaningful tasks.
- Create an environment where members can work together to create, repair, and repurpose.
- Boost wellbeing with purpose-driven activities, peer encouragement, and access to practical resources that support mental health and daily resilience.
- Strengthen community ties by partnering with local groups, volunteers, and organisations, so our projects reflect what the community needs and can be enjoyed by everyone.
- Build a culture of learning and sharing of skills.
LCDT Role
The Men’s Shed is a member-led group. LCDT is supporting the group by hosting the shed in Lochhead Gardens and pursuing funding opportunities to sustain the group’s development.
