Lochwinnoch Men’s Shed
Project Status: Development
The idea for the Lochwinnoch Men’s Shed originated from community consultation linked to our Lochhead Garden Project and then later supported through our Winter Warm Spaces initiative. Above all, the project aims to provide a welcoming space where people can socialise and develop new skills.
At this point, LCDT is supporting the Men’s Shed group. In fact, the group is now a member-led group in its own right. Their brand-new shed, funded by grant support, is now located in our Lochhead Gardens community space.
The group is looking to create a safe place where like-minded people can gather, share ideas and skills, and take some time to pursue projects, big or small.
We also have the support of the Scottish Men’s Shed Association (SMSA) and are excited about what this may bring for the Men’s Shed Group.
The Lochwinnoch Men’s Shed aims to:
- Reduce isolation and loneliness by offering a welcoming space where people can connect in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
- Help members form real friendships through shared interests, collaborative projects, and time spent together on meaningful tasks.
- Create an environment where members can work together to create, repair, and repurpose.
- Boost wellbeing with purpose-driven activities, peer encouragement, and access to practical resources that support mental health and daily resilience.
- Strengthen community ties by partnering with local groups, volunteers, and organisations, allowing our projects to reflect community needs and to be enjoyed by everyone.
- Build a collaborative culture of learning and sharing skills.
The Men’s Shed is now a member-led group. LCDT is supporting the group by hosting the shed in Lochhead Gardens and also pursuing funding opportunities to sustain the group’s development.
The Lochwinnoch Men’s Shed received a £7,200 funding award from Merchants House, Glasgow, in December 2025. The generous grant was used to buy a workspace for the Men’s Shed. The group then built and painted its new shed and placed the generously donated tools inside. As a result, the original shed now serves as a social meeting area where members can relax. Most importantly, the new shed provides a much-needed, separate, and equipped workshop space for members to work on their projects and share skills.
Now that both areas are set up and running as planned, we’re ready to make full use of the two sheds and welcome new members to our community.
Interested in joining the Men’s Shed? Feel free to come along and say hello. The Men’s Shed group meets every Thursday evening from 7pm.
