Position Available: Heritage Activity and Interpretation Consultant

Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust (LCDT)  wishes to appoint a Heritage Activity and Interpretation consultant to support the Development Phase of the Transforming Lochwinnoch Church into a Creative Community Hub’ project. The Project will seek to sensitively adapt this former church building to become an exciting venue for a range of uses, for the benefit of the community. The project has been made possible through generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Robert Barr Foundation and the Scottish Land Fund.

LCDT is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. Its overall aim is to help the village of Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, thrive and its charitable purposes relate to environmental protection, education, supporting people in need due to age and/or loneliness, arts and heritage, citizenship, and community development. The focus of the project is Lochwinnoch Parish Church, a category A listed building, acquired by LCDT in May 2025 and is LCDT’s largest project since the Trust was established in 2013.

The Delivery Stage application submission date has been set as the 6th of August 2026. A dedicated Church Project Steering Group of 7 volunteers has been set up to support and oversee the project and has appointed a Project Co-ordinator who acts as the liaison between the steering group and LDN Architects who have been appointed as the project Design Team.

Quotations are invited for a highly motivated and experienced heritage professional to produce the Community Heritage Activities and Interpretation Plan as key documents for the project. These documents will form part of the Trust’s application (Second Round) to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland’s Action Plan. The successful consultant will be able to draw on the support of the Project Co-ordinator and LCDT steering group in accessing information on the proposed scheme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a detailed Heritage Activity and Interpretation Plan as laid out in National Lottery Heritage Fund guidance resources.
  • Develop two documents that clearly link with each other
  • Engage with LCDT Project Steering Group, local community and key stakeholders including short term working groups
  • Work closely with the Project Co-ordinator to ensure that all documents comply with and meet the high standards expected of the project

About the Contract:

  • A maximum budget of £12,000 (inclusive of VAT)
  • Expenses for travel for site visits should be clearly stated and incorporated in the budget
  • Completion of the Plans by 30th June 2026

About you

  • Highly experienced in the production of Heritage and Interpretation Plans
  • Experience of working with communities
  • Evidence of previous submissions to the NLHF
  • Membership of the IHBC, AHI or similar is Desirable

LCDT Fair Work Statement

As a small organisation, we strive to ensure that we have good employment practices. We are a living wage employer and are currently updating all our HR policies. We have two part-time staff members: our Lochhead Gardens Project Officer and our Development Officer. The post holders have 3 monthly review meetings with a named director and informal contact with directors every week, including a link to the vice chair. The PO takes a lead in supporting the project steering group and attends and participates in all steering group meetings where their input is sought and valued. The PO is encouraged to network with other officers in similar roles for guidance, support and personal development.
