We’re delighted to share that the Lochwinnoch Local Place Plan (LPP) has now been formally submitted to Renfrewshire Council.
This is a significant milestone- not just for Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust, but for everyone who lives, works, or cares about our village. The plan represents months of hard work, community discussions, and a shared vision for what Lochwinnoch should look like over the next decade.
What is a Local Place Plan?
A Local Place Plan is a community-led document that sets out how local people want their area to develop. It covers land use, housing, green space, transport, local facilities, and much more. Renfrewshire Council is preparing a new 10-year regional Development Plan. Crucially, our LPP gives the community a formal voice in shaping that process.
How We Got Here
We finally got there- it has been a true community effort:
- September 2025: initial planning & research
- October 2025: A paper & online survey to research community priorities
- November 2025: community discussions
- January 2026: drafting the plan
- April 2026: the draft Local Place Plan is shared for feedback
- May 2026: following the review of all feedback, the final plan was submitted to the Council
None of this would have been possible without the contributions of residents, community council members, local groups, and everyone who took the time to share their views.
What’s in the Lochwinnoch Local Place Plan?
In Essence, the Lochwinnoch LPP sets out a vision and a series of the community’s priority proposals for the village’s future. While the full document is now with the council, the themes we heard loud and clear from the community include:
- Protecting and enhancing our natural environment and green spaces
- Improving local facilities and services
- Supporting sustainable and appropriate housing development
- Strengthening the village’s heritage and sense of place
- Better active travel routes and connections
In summary, the plan grew from a genuine understanding of what makes Lochwinnoch special- and what needs to change to make it even better for generations to come.
What Happens Next?
Now that Renfrewshire Council has the LPP, it will register and consider it in preparing the Regional Development Plan. This means that our community’s voice will be on record when decision-makers determine development and land use in and around Lochwinnoch.
