Men’s Shed Workshop Complete. Built by the Group, for the Group

Lochwinnoch Men’s Shed has officially completed its brand new workshop. As a matter of fact, the group built the shed itself!

After months of hard work, the new workshop was finished in March 2026. The group assembled the walls and roof panels, levelled the foundation, fitted the windows, and did all the weatherproofing themselves. The electrics and the laying of the floor completed the space, ready for the group to start using it. The members plan to kit out the inside with workbenches to make it an even more functional space.

What’s more, the upgraded setup means the original shed will be freed up for the group to socialise and talk about future projects. And then, the new workshop provides a dedicated workspace for projects and sharing skills.

The group is also laying a new path from the entrance to the toilet block. This practical improvement aims to make the site more accessible for everyone.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. The workshop was purchased with a generous £7,200 grant from the Merchants House of Glasgow, secured by Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust.

Busy hands, helping wildlife too

But the Men’s Shed hasn’t stopped at completing the workshop. Members have also been busy making Barn Owl boxes, a critical conservation tool in Scotland. These boxes help support the population of these birds by compensating for the loss of natural nesting sites. Not only that, they provide shelter from the harsh Scottish weather!
