We have received a delivery of mixed-variety saplings from ‘I Dig Trees’ to plant across Lochhead gardens. This tree planting project will make our community space a haven for both people and nature.
I Dig Trees is a tree-planting initiative run by The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). Its purpose is to distribute millions of free trees to community groups, schools, and individuals across the UK to create species-rich “pocket forests”. These small, dense woodland areas benefit climate, wildlife, and local communities. It’s essentially a mass-participation tree-planting movement that makes it easy for anyone to get involved by applying for free trees to plant in their local area.
Why Tree Planting?
It’s about more than just aesthetics. By introducing these varieties to the gardens, we are:
- Boosting local biodiversity: Creating vital habitats and nesting spots for birds, bees, and bugs.
- Cleaning our air: Helping the garden act as a “green lung” for the local area.
- Planning for the future: Ensuring that the next generation has green spaces to enjoy!
A Community Effort
Our team of volunteers will be out in the gardens shortly to support this tree planting project. A massive thank you to TCV for the trees, and to our dedicated volunteers for providing the “people power” to make it happen.
