We’re excited to share some news from our ongoing effort to upgrade Lochwinnoch Recreation Park: the installation of our new Teen Shelter.
As many of you know, our community-led project has been a labour of love. From the start, it was built on the dedication of residents, families, and young people. All working together to create the best possible outdoor space.
Since late 2020, the LCDT grassroots campaign has worked to raise funds, gather community input, and collaborate with council partners. All with one goal: to transform our park into a vibrant, inclusive space for everyone.
And now, after years of planning, fundraising, and hard work, we’re excited to share our latest milestone: the installation of the new teen shelter!
Thanks to the creativity of local youth, we received £ 2,700 from the Celebrating Renfrewshire Villages Fund. In combination with community fundraising, this supported the installation of the new teen shelter. To make this happen, we collaborated with a group of 12-14-year-olds on the fund application. As part of their support for the bid, the girls involved in the project made a TikTok video inspired by the ‘Make Space For Girls’ campaign. The idea is to make public spaces more welcoming for teenage girls.
Above all, this exciting addition provides a dedicated space for teenagers to gather, socialise, and enjoy the park safely and comfortably. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to making Lochwinnoch Recreation Park a space for all ages.
A special thank you to everyone who has supported and contributed to this project.
